The most famous piece of Italy for literature lovers, but one of the most beautiful and romantic also for who  loves to travel into the nature to the discovery of enchanting villages. Lake Como, with one of the most renowned towns that overlook its shores, Cernobbio, is the next destination we find in our long trip around Italy.

Lake Como

Lake Como, with its upside-down Y form, gave to the world the inventor Alessandro Volta and the writer Alessandro Manzoni, who set the book I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed) the branch of the lake that contains Lecco.

The lake’s center (the center of the Y) features perhaps one of the most famous and awe-inspiring Italian images in the world: the beautiful panorama that comprises the fantastic Villa d’Este (Cernobbio), Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi (Bellagio), and Villa Passalacqua (Moltrasio).
Lake Como is the ne plus ultra in a number of aspects, and a paradise for those who enjoy practicing water sports, paragliding, trekking, horseback riding, mountain-biking, rock-climbing and golf.

Cernobbio

On the western branch of the Lake Lario, better known as Lake Como, just a few kilometers from the city of Como, Cernobbio stands at the foot of Mount Bisbino, whose top (at an altitude of 1325 meters) offers a beautiful view of the lake.

Whether it is a well known resort already in past centuries it is witnessed by its hotels and its villas, the most famous of which is undoubtedly the Villa d’Este. Commissioned in the sixteenth century by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, majestically overlooks the water and, faithful to the Renaissance canon, has at its back a magnificent garden. Converted into a luxury hotel in 1873, it is considered one of the best hotels in Europe.
